The Russian State Yev Dokimov Oral Medical University, in collaboration with the Moscow State University of Stankin, has developed a new surgical robotic platform that can be used in a variety of medical clinical operations, from dentistry to neurosurgery.
According to Eagle Rohmann, head of the development project management department at Moscow University of Stomatology, the surgical robot platform consists of navigation, surgical planning and two robots, two of which are fully automatic and one is manual. , belongs to the mechanical arm type. The manual robot (mechanical arm) looks like a desk lamp and is fixed on the operating table to manage and control various surgical tools, including scalpels, biopsy needles, and laser lights. In addition, there is a visualization and navigation system platform that can plan the surgery based on a digital model of the patient's organs and view the progress of the procedure on a computer screen through the vision system.
According to Eagle Romanenko, the essence of the development of the surgical robot platform is to achieve surgical "smart surgery", which does not require surgeons to participate in the operation. Robots are more accurate than surgeons. The sequence and timing of the surgical procedure is determined by the surgeon. After that, the computer program converts the surgical plan into an automated algorithm. After the doctor presses the Enter key, the surgical procedure is initiated and control begins. Of course, there is a red button on the platform so that the doctor can stop the robot at any time. Conceptually, the operating platform is similar to the working principle of driverless cars, which are currently controlled by human drivers.
The researchers pointed out that the surgical platform is different from the similar robotic surgery platform on the market. The main difference is the use of autonomous robots. The famous surgical robot "Da Vinci" currently used in hundreds of hospitals around the world is only an auxiliary surgery platform.
It is reported that the researchers have developed a prototype, and can complete five kinds of surgical operations including brain biopsy, oral soft tissue laser cutting, and autologous stem cells to eliminate dental caries on the human body model.
Experts pointed out that the robotic arm in the platform can appear in hospitals in recent years, and it may take another five years for the automatic surgical platform to enter the clinic.
