Recently, Wärtsilä announced that it has signed a contract with Hyundai Okiura Shipbuilding to provide an exhaust gas cleaning system for a new Korean passenger ferry built by Weidong Shipping. 
It is reported that the exhaust gas cleaning system will consist of two specially optimized 13 MW open-loop V-SOx cleaners operated by Weidong Shipping, a 3,000-tonne passenger ship operated between Korea and China.
The contract was signed in January 2017 and was the first installation of the Wärtsilä exhaust gas cleaning system on a ship operated by a Korean shipowner, a Korean shipyard and operated on a South Korean route. The planned delivery time for this exhaust gas cleaning system is June this year.
According to Sigurd Jenssen, head of the Wärtsilä ship solutions exhaust cleaning system, “This is an important contract as it will enhance our visibility in the Asian market.
Exhaust gas cleaning systems are of great concern to shipowners and operators around the world, as the IMO's restrictions on the sulphur content of marine fuels will come into force in 2020, and this effective time is indeed quite fast."
