Editor's note: On June 4 last year, Yang Sheng, a 9-year-old boy from the Bama Yao Autonomous County, saved his two companions from Surabaya and eventually fell out of power. This brave young hero was not photographed before his lifetime because of family conditions. One year passed, time slowly dilutes the memory of relatives and friends on the child's appearance.

Photography is a pleasure and enjoyment for many people in the city, but the lack of photographs in poor areas is not an example. From May 14th to 17th, during an interview with a number of towns and towns in our district, the reporter found that photography is still out of reach for many people in impoverished mountainous areas. Some children only get their own life when they take graduation group photos. A photo; some elderly people with high life hardly have the opportunity to leave a memorial for their lives; some couples never know what a wedding photo looks like... When a photo of a city man “can readily be taken”, a photo comes to the mountain people. It is so precious.

On June 4th last year, Yang Shengli, the son of Yang Ligao and Yang Ni, and Yang Sheng, a second-year student of Lima Elementary School at Baima Village, Jiafu Township, Bama Yao Autonomous County, sank into the bottom of the river in order to save two fellows in Surabaya. The compensation for Yang Sheng’s family members later became the first case of payment in Guangxi after the increase in compensation for the volunteers.

Yang Li Gao said with sadness that he was the son-in-law, Yang Sheng with his mother's surname, his son's clothes and items before his death. This toy car, which was already unused when it was grown up, was buried in the debris piled downstairs and forgotten to be disposed of. Because of this, it is now the only sustenance for parents when they miss their sons.

"If you can have a photo, you can also think about it. No one would have thought that the child would die before so early. Otherwise, he would have to make a photo for his child." Yang Ni's mother wiped her tears again.

Li Yue primary school principal Yang Yue told reporters that children with better local families would take photos. Photographs taken in the photo studios of the county seats can cost 2 yuan for 8 yuan, but most students do not have this condition or even have the concept of photography. At the end of June each year, the school will generally arrange for students to take group photographs for graduating classes. A few years ago, I went to the county to ask the master of the photo studio to come. Now that many teachers have mobile phones or even digital cameras that can take pictures, they will help students take pictures and exist in computers.

For many rural children, the first shot of life is a collective photo taken from a primary school graduation. For these children's parents, they only have two photos, one is a marriage license and the other is an identity card. “Photographs are not a necessity for people in poor areas. They are luxury items,” said a local village teacher.

In fact, Yangligao also has such a "luxury product."

Yang Ni rushed upstairs to find a picture and handed it to the reporter. The plastic photographs are typical of the county photo studio and the set is a small house. In the photo, a young girl's arm is tightly pressed against her side and stands straight. She looks nervous and has no smile.

This girl is Yang Sheng’s sister. There is a date in the lower right corner of the photo: June 18, 2011. Two weeks after his younger brother Yang Sheng left, his sister Yang Jiaoming went to the county to “make up” this picture. Asked why she had to take pictures. The 12-year-old girl said nothing and only had a red eye. Yang Ligao sighed and said: "It was the younger brother who did not leave a photo to stimulate her to go to the camera."

“After the son's accident, they (the staff) asked us to take a picture. We couldn’t find it out by turning left and right. A photo was very important to ourselves and to the family.” The picture of her daughter looked and looked again. The father Yang Ligao said: "The siblings look like they are."
